* I will be teaching 1st grade again! YAY! I am thankful that I will have at least 1 year on consistency.

* Joe and I decided to re-paint the kitchen. Orginally when we moved in we painted it a light green. I was constantly reminded of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice cream and a morgue. YUCK! So we decided we need a change and painted it this lovely dark brown. LOVE IT. We have 5 windows and 1 glass paned door so it did not darken it up! We keep commenting to each other how much we love the new color.

* For the past 2 months we've been working with a Great Dane Rescue going through the application process of adopting a dog. We finally completed the last step which was a home visit. We are thankful that they are taking their time to make sure it is a right decision for both parties. I am very surprised OK even had a rescue for GDs. We should find out this week if we are approved. If yes, we get to contact foster families about going out to see their foster dog and decide if it is the right choice. There is 2 on the website that I'm in love with. The home visit people are fostering a beautiful black dane puppy (11 months) she is gorgeous! And then there is a unique 2 year old that we are interested in too.

* Joe is going to Albany this week to help design a curriculum for their classes. I hate being alone in this house w/o him :(

* We've had so much rain that areas around us are flooding. I like a storm every now and then but jeez.

* Joe has applied to the OU Ph.d program for music. He will start in the Spring! Very excited for him!

* My sister leaves for college in August. It is 3.5 hours away. I'll miss her but she'll be home for holidays. :(

We have a ton of sleet and snow (notice background of picture). MLK day was supposed to be a make-up for our last snow day. Oh well. It looks like we will be adding on more days to the end of the year . It is like one thick sheet of ice out there. Joe slid down on his bottom to get the mail.

We aren't in our house yet. We close on Thursday. YIPPEE! Although with this weather it might be kinda sucky. I'll post pics of the house soon. We are picking out paint colors. We have a bunch of paint samples and we have taped them to the wall in our apartment so we can see them in both natural and artificial lights. We already have a favorite for the kitchen, our bedroom, and bathroom. We haven't decided on the study, gameroom, or guest baths. I don't think we will paint the guest bedroom now. Our whole house is already painted a pretty off-white and we can live with that for a couple of years before we have babies.

Our house is 3 br/2.5 bath with a game-room upstairs that can be made into another bedroom if we want. Joe wants to make it the "Gator Room". I LOVE my new kitchen. We had to buy a fridge for it. All the other appliances are white but we will slowly change them out. We decided to go with a black fridge for now. It is a bottom freezer. We shopped around for weeks trying to find the best deal. I'll let you know how it goes.

I can now walk to school b/c our house is in the same neighborhood. It is a lovely neighborhood and I can see taking nightly walks around.

I know I haven't posted in FOREVER. Maybe I'll get better, maybe not. I don't know if anybody even still has me listed as a friend.

I chopped my hair off today. It's a lot shorter but I like it. I was supposed to wait until Sunday but the person called b/c she decided to go out of town and wanted to reschedule.

I still feel really sick. I have barely eaten in 3 days. I feel completely full and nauseous at the same time. My ultra-sound is set for Monday. So I will have to call in sick or take a half-day. It's a work day but still I wish I didn't have to miss. But at this point I really want to get better.

Yeah so my life the past 2.5 days have SUCKED. It started off with getting a stomach virus that found me vomiting or nauseated the entire 2.5 days and eating nothing and drinking little. Finally today, although still dehydrated finally felt able to leave the house. Fine and Dandy. Well, this afternoon I started to get pains on the right side of my upper abdomen and upper back. I guess my pain tolerance or willingness to work through the pain ended b/c I finally told Joe I'm ready to see a doctor. So we went to the Urgent Care Center. Doctor walks in and says we think it's your appendix. No DICE. After talking with me and forcefully pushing at my organs and body he says we think it's your gall-bladder but we need to draw blood and do a urine test (a front for a pregnancy test of course). Let me just say a urine sample is hard to supply when you've been dehydrated for 2 days! Well, finally I do my business. We have to schedule an ultra-sound. We'll find out within the next week. He told me to avoid fried food (believe me I haven't had fried food in at least 6 months). He offered me a shot for the pain (neglecting to tell me the regions that it would be put into my body). Joe lovingly told me he would laugh if they did it in my butt. In walks the nurse and she says lie on your side please! UGH, and laugh Joe did. It didn't hurt but still, my dignity is missing! I'm just kidding it just stinks that Joe was right. So I have a prescription for pain pills and will find out early next week if I need to partake in the surgery route. I'm ready for the pain to stop it's very uncomfortable! That's all for my long, one paragraph update.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my break from school. I love my kids but man I can't say I don't enjoy the break. School is going ok. I really love the K team. I'm pretty close with the other new K teacher. One reason I chose this school is because not every teacher is white middle-class, middle-aged woman. I went to Applebees the other day after school with some of them and I was representing (as in the only white one). I have a lot of decisions to make about whether I'm staying or not. A lot will depend on Joe (who is now actively job searching). So I might stay or we might move. But, if he comes into the county I'm definitely staying.

I'm having the hardest time trying to buy Joe's gift. I have no clue what to get him and we set up a $25 budget b/c we are saving up to buy a house.

My mom is now married! The wedding was nice and small. After the lunch reception Joe, me, mom, and Joe (her husband) all went to see Chronicles of Narnia.

Not much else is going on. I go to school, come home, and go to bed in the early evening. We aren't doing much for Christmas except church on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I do have to say the one thing I do miss about the Catholic church is Midnight Mass. It's beautiful and the one time I don't mind all the ritual nuances of the church. Maybe I can convince Joe to go to one after the service at our church that we're singing in.

We don't get to have a white christmas... makes me sad. Oh well maybe soon or when Joe goes back to get his doctorate maybe he'll choose some very northern place where it will practically be an absolute sure white Christmas.

We just sent out Christmas cards today. How sad...We've just been so busy that we haven't had time to sit down and write a simple message and address the envelopes. Poor Joe is still working...stupid school.

No real plans for me today. I might clean up a little and set up our little 1 foot tree. Right now you can't really tell it's Christmas. Ok well that's my update that purely amounts to nothing. But I have a feeling Chrystal might be the only one that reads these, oh well then I write to her! Toodles EVERYONE and Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Happy Kwanzaa!

Just quick b/c I don't feel like typing...

1. I really like kindergarten. I didn't think I would at all. I went into this year scared that I would hate it. But it's been pretty good. They suprise me everyday of what they can do (and can't do).

2. My mom is getting married. I'm excited b/c she has wanted this for sooo long. I just want her to be happy. I'm the matron of honor (not that it's going to be a huge thing) Just a quick ceremony and out to eat.

3. Joe's job kind of sucks. He has a lot of decisions to make in the next few months.

4. I love being married to Joe! As much stress as both of our jobs are it's still great to share with each other.

5. I fill very fulfilled going to church. We both joined the church choir and I really love singing. I'm actually singing the tenor part. It's been a lot of fun.

6. I miss going to football games and seeing people (we have no social life) We are going to try and go the SC. game but we'll see.

That's it for now! I'm being lazy. I get observed on Wednesday and I do my pre-conference tom. Ugh administration at my school sucks. I most likely won't be staying at the school. But it really depends on what happens with Joe!

Countdown

It's weird walking into a Barnes and Noble and seeing their countdown for the 6th Harry Potter book and going "they are counting down the days to my wedding"! It is quickly approaching!

After two wonderful weeks in Oklahoma, I came back to Gainesville, only to be swiftly taken to Orlando to meet with the DJ (we got a lot of plans hammered out) and the best part I FINALLY picked out the Father-Daughter dance! I'm excited and it made me cry when I listened to it! :) It's Bob Dylan b/c my dad is the biggest fan ever so I figure I'll surprise him!

After the meeting with the DJ we drove over to the church to do one of our pre-marital counseling with the pastor. He's very young and an Iowa fan (but I guess we won't hold it against him). We had an interesting time. Besides the questions so tell me about yourself. Ummmm no, be more specific! Joe and I were then separated to take the compatibility test. While taking it you sit there and think "I wonder what answer he will mark." You also do some character traits of your mother and father. Weirdness. When I turned it in Pastor Tony asked if I passed. So he seems like he's excited about doing our wedding. For those of you who don't know (then again, I don't know if anybody reads this) this isn't a church that either of us belong to. We wanted to get married in Orlando and the original church we wanted was going to charge us $2000, so ummm NO! And just as a side note in case anybody is confused. Yes, Joe and I were both raised Catholic. However, due to some personal beliefs we have both decided to look for denomination that meshes well if our values and beliefs. Enough said!

I'm excited! I still don't know what to do with my hair! I need to set up a trial run! EEK.

I feel like I just got back and now I leave on Sunday to go up to Charlotte for 4 days looking for a place to live and meeting with the Parent Band Boosters at Joe's high school. I haven't done a lot with my county hiring yet b/c I'm still waiting on Florida to send my Status of Eligibility and North Carolina to send my teaching certificate. Which the county needs before they can officially hire me! Ugh it's taking forever, I almost feel like they are going to tell me I took too long and I no longer have a job offer. Which really, seriously, wouldn't be too bad, then I would find a job in a county closer to Joe so we don't have to commute as far. But we'll see. I'm excited to start teaching but still nervous about the prospect of Kindergarten or 1st grade (again I wish I knew which one!)

Hopefully, I can see my education girls before we all split up and go our separate ways. :( I miss everyone and I haven't seen anybody (including my roommates) in weeks :(. Be back in Gainesville on Wednesday then back to Orlando for another meeting with the Pastor. After that I should be in Gainesville until a week before the wedding. I can host a packing party! Everyone is invited!

I GOT A JOB!

Ok, old news for most but hell I thought I would announce it on LJ because I'm awake! Yes, I'm officially a teacher at Crown Point Elementary in Matthews, North Carolina! (which is a town in a suburb-y area near charlotte) :)

I went to a job fair last Saturday and I walked up to the booth and asked for an interview. Minutes later 1 teacher and 2 APs were interviewing me. They told me the principal wasn't there yet but I should come back. So, I'm like ok I'll go look at my other choices. Well as I am walking around the teacher that was in the interview runs across the room to tell me the principal is back and they want me to meet with him. So I walk back over and he was busy, but the AP said do not leave we really want you to talk to him. So I talk to him and he brings me back over to the booth and asks me to sit down. The APs, Principal and teacher sit down and said that they really wanted me at their school! EGO BOOST! So we talk as the fill out the hiring papers. Yeah......they want me on the Kindergarten team. They said it's the best team they have at the school.... Ummmm me in kindergarten? Scary. So I got really nervous b/c I only have subbing experience in K and I really wanted grades 2,3, or 4. But you know what, I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. If I hate it, it's only 1 year and then I can transfer grades. I'm actually really excited to get this experience of K and I've been researching ideas on the web and at the library so I can start building my academic centers (kindergarten is no longer fun and games anymore). I'll have an aid everyday for at least 1/2 of the day and a mentor teacher on my grade level. There is a chance I might end up in 1st (which is a heck of lot less scarier than K) if they don't have a high enough enrollment in K. So, I'm very excited to be employed with a real job!!

Ok, I admit I haven't been following the case. It was all a lie, she had "cold feet". She lied to the FBI, police, and her family. Here's my beef with the situation. She lied to the FBI and Police but no criminal charges? WTF! How much money was spent on searching for her since Tuesday? I hope someone is getting slapped with a hefty bill for all the work that went into it. I don't care if she didn't ask to be searched for, she still did something stupid and tried to lie her way out of it. If I were to collapse in the mall they would call the ambulance and I would get a hefty bill in the mail for that ambulance whether I wanted it or not. (At least where I'm from). Poor family and fiance are embarrassed to hell and back nonetheless, a very rich and prominent family. Ok I'm done, resume regular scheduled updates!

This week just keeps getting worse...

My Dad is ok and home from the hospital, no damage to the heart.

However, now there is drama w/ Mr. Chauncy...

He developed another urinary tract infection last week (3rd one in about 5 months), we went to the vet and he ordered us a new medicine since this seems to be a frequent problem. Now Mr. Chauncy has stopped eating and drinking, has lost 75 grams, and overall has no energy (obviously if he is not eating. I wake up during the night(when I'm actually sleeping...a whole different story) and fear that I'm going to find him dead.

Joe took him to the vet and the vet now thinks it may be genetic that he keeps getting all the infections. We are supposed to keep giving him the medicine and now get whatever food and liquid into him. He gave us nutri-cal to help him gain weight and we'll also feed him any baby food that we can get him to eat. The vet is now worried that it might by kidney problems due to the genetic disposition for Mr. Chauncy to develop crystals in his urine. Mr. Chauncy may be in the early stages of kidney failure. The vet wants us force feed him every few hours for 2 weeks. If nothing changes or he gets worse he suggested that we put him down b/c of quality of life and that it is likely that it truly is kidney failure.

I hope he gets better but I also don't want him to suffer in any more pain. Almost every pet I have every owned has died prematurely due to circumstances out of my control. No more pets in a long time....

My Dad

I'm scared for my Dad. He's in the hospital again. He had another heart attack (1st series was in Nov.). He just had a stress test and EKG done last week. Everything said it was fine. The doctors are worried because when they put stints in last time they checked the other arteries and there was no sign of plaque. Now they are 50, 70, and 80% filled. He is so healthy and cares about his body, takes the medicine the doctors put him on, eats great, works out. He does everything he needs to do. This isn't fair. Life isn't fair.

I'm so lame about updating. I always think about it but then get WAY to lazy to actually do something about it. Sadness, I know.

Moving On
Angela got me thinking about moving on in life. I'm very ready. I love the time I spent at UF and the great people I've met. I'll miss the campus and the games. However, this year I have just felt ready to move on to another phase in my life. I'm ready for a career (even though sometimes when I think about it, it really scares me). I'm ready to be married and live together with Joe, it gets old having to commute to each other's place (and I am thankful that he comes over here 99.9% of the time) and we both feel like we are imposing on roommates if we stay the night or want to eat dinner together. I get so excited about getting a job and moving, it feels right. I don't care where we move at this point (we're still set on Charlotte). As long as we are together, we'll work out the rest of the details. There are of course some people that I will not miss when I leave this town. I won't name them b/c I know journals are read by random people but still there's a few that if I don't see again I would be just fine!

Mr. Chauncy (hedgehog for those that don't know) vs. Joe!
Joe LOST! It was a funny experience. Joe had Mr. Chauncy out of the cage and was crawling around on the floor and crawled under Joe's leg. Well Joe puts his hand under his leg to pet him. Well Joe in his cutest voice goes "awwww he's licking me". Well I'm sitting at the computer and haven't really processed what Joe has just said to me...all of a sudden "ow, oww, OWWWWWWWWW" Joe begins yelling and lifts his hand up with a very attached hedgehog clenched to his finger dangling in the air. Mr. Chauncy has the grip of death on Joe and refuses to give up the fight. Joe is asking me what to do and all I do is laugh at him (I know I'm evil). People on hedgehog boards say get a Q-tip with alcohol on it and put it by their nose. Well, after witnessing the massacre I can say that there is very little chance for someone with a hedgehog firmly clamped to them will have the time to search for said removal materials. Joe finally shook him loose and all is well, but I fear the friendship has been severed (no pun intended) :)

Orlando!
This weekend I went to Orlando for the dreaded wedding dress shopping. I'm a proud owner of a wedding dress! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was the 3rd dress I tried on. I love it! I also got a veil for UBER cheap. I couldn't see the point of spending over $100 on basically a piece of mosquito netting! I just have to say that my mom and I had our differences when I was in high school and early college. But she and I have been getting along great the past year or two and it has been great. Without her help none of this would have been possible. She has been so great helping me plan everything. There's only a few minor stuff to get out of the way (flowers-not too big of a deal, invitations ordered, tuxes) other than that everything seems to be working out great! :)

Subbing
I was basically blacklisted from subbing b/c I turned down several jobs when I went out of town for my sister's wedding and my trip to NC. However, I finally subbed again in a Kindergarten class that I had subbed in before. Well, usually they are not my cup of tea. I actually had fun! Once they figured out it was April Fool's Day they were so cute "Ms. Elwell there is something behind you!" and leaving no reaction time what-so-ever "April Fools!" Well, at least I thought it was funny. Kindergarten is not my first choice for teaching. I'm leaning toward 2nd (b/c I did my student teaching in that grade so I feel I know it the best) 3rd, 4th, 1st, 5th, 6th, kindergarten. But, actually I'm pretty open to whatever grade level. Lately however, I just seem to be leaning toward 3rd and 4th (even though when I did my pre-internship 4th grade scared me). We'll see! I hope, although it's not likely that I get a job offer on the 23rd at the job fair in Charlotte. I wish they would send my stupid PRAXIS scores, it's been over a month! Ok, well I have class all day tom. and I should attempt for the 4th time tonight to try and get some sleep.

An update, oh My!

It's not that I think my life is too good for an update now and then, it's just that ya know it is. HA HA! Whatever.

School is kicking my ass, and by ass I don't mean one butt cheek, I mean the full complete ASS! Ok kinda crude, whatever. It's not that my grades are bad, they're not. It's just that I have been so motivated to not do work. I feel I'm short changing every assignment I do. Especially this week with 4 papers being due in the span of 2 days. Yuck. I waited to the last minute of course b/c again I'm motivated to NOT do my work. Ugh. I'm so ready to graduate with that diploma and move on. I will probably be back in school within 5-10 years combining my two passions health and education. DOES NOT mean I want to be a health educator. We'll see where I end up.

On better more uplifting news. I'm MOVING TO NORTH CAROLINA! YAY. After Joe and I debated and thought we were moving to various states we have found a state that we love, that we can afford to live in. Granted we may only be there for 5-7 years until Joe goes back for his Ph.d, but still I love Charlotte. It has to be honestly one of the best cities I have been to. I'm very excited to be moving. So much is going to happen this summer. Graduate, get married, get a job, and move! EEK I'm so ready for the next phase of my life right now.

Wedding plans are going great. My Mom is doing a wonderful job as wedding planner (and I found out during spring break that she's getting married too!). She has met with the vendors and signed all the contracts. She is so great and I love her, and the past few years we have gotten along so much better than I ever thought we would. The only major things we need now are: flowers and the dress. The rest should be pretty minor (although I think flowers are pretty minor). What a special day! I get married the day Harry Potter book 6 comes out. I guess Joe would get mad if I left him at the alter b/c I was reading the book. He reads them too! Maybe that's what my Dad is getting me as a wedding gift.

Well there you go. My extensive update. Get on my friends list people! Comment, ask questions, insult me whatever! I just like to feel loved!

So freakin tired. I need to get lots of homework done tom. for next week b/c I'm heading out to Orlando tom. night and I don't want to have to worry about hw while I am in Oklahoma. Good NIGHT!
